Dr. Karina Kunka 

Dr. Kunka was born and raised in central Virginia. She graduated magna cum laude with highest departmental honors from Kenyon College in 2019 with a B.A. in Molecular Biology, a minor in Anthropology, and authorship on several research publications in microbial genetics.

Following her bachelor’s degree, she dedicated herself to the field of oral health through her research on oral microbes that can infect the heart at Virginia Commonwealth University. She then went on to earn her DMD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2024 with an Outstanding Clinical Performance Award for her dedication to treating patients with Special Needs.

After graduating from dental school, Dr. Kunka completed her residency at the Pittsburgh Veteran’s Affairs Healthcare System. There, she received advanced training in oral and periodontal surgery, dental implant placement, prosthodontics, endodontics, and managing complex medical histories. By completion of her residency, Dr. Kunka was a recipient of a Staff Appreciation and Recognition award for excellence in clinical performance.

Dedicated throughout her early career to research, Dr. Kunka is now committed to ensuring the highest quality of evidence-based care for her patients.

Dr. Kunka is now putting down roots in Pittsburgh with her fiancé John, along with their fluffy feline Julius.                                  In her spare time, Dr. Kunka loves to craft miniature dioramas, and also likes to fish and explore all of the great food that Pittsburgh has to offer.
